Tea & Breath - Pause & Sip

Let one cup become a mindful cue between moments.

Tea as a Mindfulness Cue

In many Japanese homes, tea is less about speed and more about noticing. Try this simple method: warm your cup, use water around 75-85 C for green tea, steep for 2-3 minutes, and watch the leaf color shift before the first sip.

  1. Place tea leaves in your pot.
  2. Pour water slowly and listen to the sound.
  3. Observe steam for one full breath cycle.
  4. Take your first sip in silence.

Three Breath Practices to Accompany Tea

Equal 4-4 Breath

Inhale 4 counts, exhale 4 counts. Repeat for 6 rounds while holding the warm cup.

Extended Exhale 4-6

Inhale 4 counts, exhale 6 counts. Let shoulders soften as breath flows out.

Three-Part Breath

Fill lower ribs, then chest, then collarbone gently. Exhale in reverse order for 4 cycles.
